Manchester City Thunders Closer to Title with Dominant Victory
Gvardiol Grabs Brace as Fulham Falters at Etihad
Manchester City moved a step closer to a record-equalling fourth successive Premier League title with a clinical 4-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday, with Josko Gvardiol bagging a stunning brace at the Etihad Stadium.
In a match that showcased the gulf in class between the reigning champions and their newly-promoted opponents, City dominated possession and carved out numerous chances throughout the 90 minutes. Fulham, despite some resolute defending at times, ultimately succumbed to the relentless pressure of the Sky Blues.
Gvardiol opened the scoring for the hosts in the 24th minute when he rose majestically to meet Kevin De Bruyne's pinpoint cross and head home. The Croatian defender doubled his tally just before the half-hour mark, capitalising on a defensive lapse to steer a low shot past Bernd Leno.
Manchester City continued their relentless onslaught in the second half, with Erling Haaland adding a third goal in the 60th minute. The Norwegian striker pounced on a rebound after Leno parried Riyad Mahrez's shot, burying it into the back of the net with ease.
To complete the rout, Ilkay Gündogan converted a penalty in the 75th minute after Jack Grealish was fouled inside the box. The German midfielder calmly slotted the spot-kick into the bottom corner, sealing a comprehensive victory for Pep Guardiola's side.
The result sees Manchester City move three points clear at the top of the Premier League table, maintaining their advantage over rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. With just 12 matches remaining in the season, the Sky Blues are now firm favourites to retain their Premier League crown for a fourth year in a row.
