O.J. Simpson, Former Football Star Acquitted in Double Murder, Dies at 76

Legendary NFL running back's life overshadowed by infamous 1995 trial

Simpson passed away at his Las Vegas home after battling prostate cancer

Former NFL star O.J. Simpson, whose athletic achievements and fame were eclipsed by his 1995 acquittal in the brutal killings of his ex-wife and her friend, has died of cancer at the age of 76, his family confirmed.

Simpson, also known as "The Juice," was an All-American college football standout at the University of Southern California. He was drafted first overall by the Buffalo Bills in the 1969 NFL Draft and played professionally for 11 seasons, earning 11 Pro Bowl selections and four rushing titles.

After retiring from football, Simpson became a successful actor and broadcaster. He starred in the popular 1974 film "The Towering Inferno" and had his own short-lived sitcom, "Simpson & Son." He also worked as a sports commentator for Fox and NBC.

In 1995, Simpson's life took a dramatic turn when he was accused of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman. The subsequent televised trial gripped the nation and captivated viewers worldwide. Simpson was eventually acquitted of all charges, but the case left a lasting stain on his reputation.

In later years, Simpson lived a relatively quiet life in Las Vegas. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2019 and underwent treatment. He passed away peacefully at his home on July 26, 2023.
